CYS Services Talent Showcase

Looking for a new hobby? The library organizes a knitting group on the first Sunday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Newcomers’ Extravaganza 9:30-11 a.m. at the Sam Houston Community Center, is mandatory for all permanent party in-processing Soldiers, lieutenant colonel and below, within 60 days of their arrival to Fort Sam Houston. Be ‘Green’ at AAFES
Army & Air Force Exchange Service-operated retail facilities are rewarding military shoppers through its “Use a Bag, Save the Planet” initiative. Instead of using traditional plastic bags, AAFES is encouraging shoppers to bring their own reusable bags. Shoppers will get five cents back for every reusable bag used. The five-cent credit applies only to shoppers who bring in and use reusable shopping bags (plastic bags do not apply). As such, customers who simply decline a plastic bag, but do not utilize a reusable bag, will not qualify for the five cent credit.
Central Registration is now Parent Central
The Central Registration office at 2010 Stanley Road, Building 2797, is now called Parent Central. Only the name has changed! All services, hours and numbers remain the same. Parent Central is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and by appointment only after 4:30 p.m. The office is closed every first and third Friday of the month. Call 221-4871/1723.
New Parent Support Program Orientation
The class will be held the last Wednesday of each month from 2-3:30 p.m. at Army Community Center, Building 2797, for expectant parents and parents of children birth-3 years old. To register, call 221-0349/0860.
Helping Us Grow Securely playgroup for parents and children ages birth to 5-years-old meets Tuesdays, 9-11 a.m. at Dodd Field Chapel, Building 1721, for interactive fun play. Registration is not required. Call 221-0349/2418.
New Parent Support Program will offer “Baby Talk” each Tuesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Dodd Field Chapel. This class is an informative discussion group for moms and dads with children ages 0 to 12 months “learn what they need…and share what they know.” T his is an educational support group focusing on developmental stages and behavioral changes for baby and learning and sharing for moms. Kids on Site!
Kids on Site! at the Jimmy Brought Fitness Center CYS Services has made it easier for busy moms and dads to squeeze in a workout by offering convenient on-site child care, known as Kids On Site (KOS) at the Jimmy Brought Fitness Center. KOS provides care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old of parents using the facility. KOS child care center is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. To participate in the program, children must be registered with CYS Services, please call Parent Central at (210) 221-4871.

Survivor Outreach Services
Many times after a loved one is lost, there are unresolved issues or questions that surface months or year later. SOS ensures survivors are connected with local support services that include but are not limited to grief counseling, support groups and social events. The SOS staff can assist with understanding and applying for benefits, investing, estate planning, long term life skills education and support to survivors, as long as it is needed. Call 221-1841.
EFMP SUPPORT GROUP
The Exceptional Family Member Program offers a support group each Wednesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the School Age Service Bldg. 1705, Dodd Blvd. Each week the group is facilitated by Mutual Enrichment through Learning and Discovery (MELD) and is open to Service Members and military Families with special need members. Also MELD Special provides childcare and dinner. Registration is required so there will be plenty of food and childcare providers available. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASS
English as a second language is offered each Monday and Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. This class is free and designed especially for foreign-born spouses to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and pronunciation. Classes are appropriate for the beginner, intermediate and advanced student with individualized group instruction. Free Valet Parking Service at BAMC
The service is free for Brooke Army Medical Center patients Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Just show I.D. card or appointment slip at the BAMC Medical Mall entrance. Additional parking made available for patients in parking lots A and B through the Binz-Engleman Gate and lot D through the IH-35 gate for those who do not want to use this service.

Offpost After-school Pick-up Services
School Age Services (SAS), in conjunction with the Army Family Covenant, now offers offpost, after-school pick-up services. SAS will pick children up from the following schools: Royal Ridge, Wilshire Elementary, St. Pius X, East Terrell Hills Elementary.
